Get the first burn right

The first burn matters most. Let the candle burn long enough for the melted wax to reach the edges of the container (often 1–2 hours). This prevents “tunnelling” — where the candle burns straight down the middle and wastes wax around the sides.

Trim the wick before every burn

Trim the wick to about 5mm each time before lighting. A trimmed wick:
